Mental Health Workshops

Child Welfare Council, Punjab is running various projects for the welfare of children from its own resources in the State like Vani School for Hearing Impaired and special children at Patiala, a Computer Training Centre and a Nanny Care and Home Nursing care courses at Bal Bhawan, Mohali, Evening Schools at Gurdaspur and Faridkot districts. The Council is running model creche centres focusing on improvement of Health and Education of Children in the State of Punjab. These centres cater to the requirement of health, nutrition, pre-school activities and learning through play-way etc.

Along with many other projects run in various districts of Punjab, the Council is running mental health programme for students in various schools in Punjab since last 2 years.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health is an Important public health issue across the world and especially in developing countries like India. Children and adolescents constitute approximately 40% of our National population. Mental Health issues of childhood have a long lasting effects in adulthood, which includes mental health illnesses such as depression, anxiety and substance use disorders. It has an adverse impact on academic performance and functional outcomes into adulthood.

To create mental health awareness among the students and teachers, six such workshops have been organized in Mohali, Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Malerkotla districts. In these workshops, the students are sensitized about Mental Health Issues and helped to cope with various issues they face, by the team of experts  psychologists.

As the Child Welfare Council, Punjab has received a very positive response to these workshops. With the financial help from Punjab Raj Bhawan, the Council will conduct 20 more such workshops in the districts which have not been covered so far. The project would definitely make a positive impact on students’ lives.
